One of the most important things in life is to be present. Why? Because when we are mostly thinking about the past or future we are missing out on "life" itself.
A lot of us carry a backpack filled with our past, and we don't realize that it's an unnecessary load. There is really nothing we can do about what has already happened. Others, on the other hand, are living life as a rehearsal with great expectations for the future because it will be better or stressed out about events that haven't even happened.
Being fully aware of your surroundings, focused on what you're doing at the moment is key to being present. When you're eating, eat. When you're listening to someone, listen.
I once read this that explains the present moment:
Where are you? Here.
Who are you? Now.
What are you? This moment.
As Eckhart Tolle has said: "Nothing has happened in the past; it happened in the Now. Nothing will ever happen in the future; it will happen in the Now.”
You have no power over the past or the future. Your power is in the now.
Have a great weekend and remember—this moment is your life!
